Suggestions?

May 7th, 2008 · 27 Comments

I am working on this here new blog and trying to figure things out. One of the little doo-dads I need to decide on is a new avatar. I used to use this handy little frog, which I like, but I’m not sure it really expresses my blog.

Veronica's Garden Toad

So do you have any suggestions? I definitely don’t want to use a real picture of me. What kind of image would say “Toddled Dredge” to you?

Two images immediately come to mind. First, a bowl of porridge. Second, a drip sand castle.

Now I feel like I need to apologize. Does it help that I really like your whole new package website thing. Glad that the fam supported your habit.

oh come on, a picture of you would be great.

That’s a hard question. I think the frog is adorable, but it doesn’t say Toddled Dredge to me. I tried to do one of those turn-off-your-brain free association things and the first image that came to mind was a child’s blanket draped over a big leather chair in a cozy library somewhere.

Yeah. It was sort of specific. Sorry. ;>

Oh come on, the picture of you below with the mask on would be fabulous. :)

Since you ARE a mommy blogger, how about a pile of laundry? :)

    Or some baby feet?

How about an alphabet block on something written in Greek?

A thick hardcover book with crackers and crumbs all over it.

Being the literalist that I am (is that even a word?), I immediately thought of a toddler playing with a toy crane in a sandbox… or a close-up of a toddler’s sandy feet

In a totally different vein (pun! LOL), I also pictured a close-up of someone’s hands and pail while they panned for gold (dredging a riverbed). I though of that one because I really enjoy your posts about your spiritual walk, which in my life often resembles panning for gold — sifting through the mucky river stuff to find the gold that God wants for my life.

    milk and crackers

  • 11 JulieC // May 8, 2008 at 3:05 am

Todd Eldridge, of course. ha ha

Actually, the thick book with crumbs on it that Angela Michelle suggested makes sense to me–something brainy yet child connected. Not that children can’t be brainy. :-)

A cracker with a bite out of it, with four little crumbs trailing behind…I have no idea where you’d find that, though.

I thought of an illuminated text. One of the sacred ones with gorgeous artwork. Maybe that says more about me than about you? ;-)

There are some good ideas here. My first thought was a pile of old books with a pacifier sitting in front of it. Or a baby rattle. If you aren’t interested in taking the picture yourself, I bet you can find another blogger with great photo skills to do it for you.

Nothing says Toddled Dredge like a picture of a slightly overweight, moderately bald, middle aged man asleep on a lazy-boy. If I could find a lazy-boy I could send you a picture :)

You in the mask is great, or you just after the “well, it’s dry” haircut. Love the expression on your face.

Or, if you want to get really clever, a picture of a Cheeze-it box (considering your by-line) but–wait for it–underneath the word “Cheeze-Its” would be the slogan, “Get your own box”…translated into esper@nto.

What about one of the ravaged doughnuts?

I’m liking all the books + signs of children suggestions, too. Somewhere I have a picture of my oldest at 8 months old or so, where he got a hold of one of our copies of The City of God and he would not. Let. It go. Something along those lines would be funny.

Thank you all for the great ideas. I especially liked Elle’s steaming bowl of porridge, but I suspect capturing steam is beyond my photo skills. I will muse on these suggestions a while and come up with something.

Definitely not the frog…but I’m having a hard time coming up with anything specific that I think would work. I think I like some of the previous comments about books and cracker crumbs…maybe…hmm. Sorry I’m not more help.

I also wanted to say that I really appreciate your book reviews. They are really helpful (and easy to read) and I just put a couple of books on my “to get at the library” list. Thanks!

Yep, I’m digging the mask photo…

  • 21 Shalee // May 9, 2008 at 12:29 pm

Oh I think the picture fromthe Allergy Season post would be JUST FINE!

Of course you could always create a picture of yummy crackers to go along with your tagline. Or more appropriately, goldfish.

  • 22 tas // May 9, 2008 at 1:41 pm

the first thing that came to mind was a pair of kid sized rubber boots truding through the mud….

  • 23 tas // May 9, 2008 at 1:42 pm

    oops…that should say ‘trudging”

  • 24 edj // May 9, 2008 at 6:59 pm

Hmm…I like the mask photo best, but the other ideas of books and crackers combined would suit you awfully well.
Gotta go…the twins are slam dancing to Vivaldi.

  • 25 Julie // May 10, 2008 at 8:23 am

Darn it, I was going to say Todd Eldredge too, but some other Julie beat me to it. :)

I second the cracker crumbs on the book. Actually, I just saw a gravatar that was a square of a saltine cracker, very cute.

I liked the red dress girl from a while back.

Goldfish crackers swimming in the toilet bowl.
