Still Sick: A List

The good:

  • My squirmiest child, the four-year-old JellyBean, was sick enough to snuggle with me under the covers and take a real, honest-to-goodness nap.
  • The kids have in general remained in good spirits, despite everyone having a turn with this respiratory flu.
  • My mom-in-law, who planned to visit this weekend, kindly put off her trip for a week so we would have time to recover.  I was worried that she would come anyway and get sick too, but now I have time to do some disinfecting.  No arguing was necessary.

The bad:

  • I have seen the following movies  so many times, I may have them memorized: Esther: The Girl Who Became Queen, Lilo and Stitch, American Legends, Robin Hood, and LarryBoy: The Cartoon Adventures.
  • My house is positively squalid.  In resignation, I hung a full size garbage bag from my bedpost to hold all the tissues.
  • Baby coughs.  Oh, they break the heart.

The ugly:

  • When a five-month pregnant woman has a wracking fit of coughs, um…  Let’s just say that in desperation I broke out the supply of sanitary products left over from my last birth.  Understand?

    Baby coughs ARE sad.

My mom just bought my husband and I a smallish tv/dvd combo to attach to a corner of our wall in our bedroom for just such moments. No cable up there, or satellite, and it’s the only tv upstairs (we have 1 downstairs). I asked for it because tv is a saviour of sorts when kids are sick - but oh, the banality of children’s tv. (Why do they only make 5 episodes of any show, then play it 500 times? Are they TRYING to turn our brains to mush?)

We don’t get sick that much, but it’s a comfort to know it’s there, anyway, right there above the comfy bed. A great place to be when you’re sick, I think. :) I think we’ve watched it once in the last month. No sickness - just trying it out. Thank goodness.

Hope you feel better soon - it will be good for your mom to come let YOU be the kid for awhile. :) Moms are good for that kind of thing, even when you’re all grown up.

Baby coughs hurt my heart. And I think baby croup is horrible too. There is nothing worse than watching one of my littles struggle to breathe. OK, pretty much ANY baby sickness = awful.

Do I get an award for most obvious statement ever?

Hope you are all feeling better soon.

Oh dear, I hope you all feel better soon! You have all my sympathy, especially with regards to Lilo & Stitch. :)

At times like those, when I doze off, I see and hear dancing, singing vegetables. To this day, the VeggieTales theme songs make me feel as if I’m sick.

Hope you all feel better very soon. You’re right, it’s so hard to hear your baby struggle to breathe.

Oh, ouch. I had a horrible flu and then a sinus infection during my last pregnancy and I can think of no worse time to be sick–you already can’t breathe well, think well, sleep well, and it is all compounded. Well, as you said, no worse time except maybe when you are a little baby and don’t know what’s happening to you.

    I hope y’all feel better soon. :(

Your house isn’t really squalid–you’ve got a big garbage bag hanging off your bed! If it was squalid, you’d just be tossing the tissues on the floor willy nilly. See how neat you are, even in your illness?

at times desperation and common sense line up perfectly.

I can sing you all the songs from the Esther video, if you like. That should fix you right up.

    Beck,
    Puppies! Puppies!…

Shoot. I do that when I cough, and I’m not even pregnant anymore.
