Is there still anything you don’t know about me? Yes! Yes, there is!

  1. If I had been a boy, my name would have been Jonathan Edwards.
  2. I talk to the radio.  More specifically, I talk back to NPR.  NPR is like the annoyingly political uncle whom you invite over every weekend but cannot resist contradicting.  Unless Daniel Schorr is on.  Then I just turn it off.
  3. I am dreadfully allergic to poison ivy.
  4. I hate crowds.  No matter how wonderful the event, if there is a crowd, I would rather skip it.
  5. While I generally hate computer games, I am susceptible to the lure of simple games like Tetris.  Tetris was briefly my crack.
  6. Amusement parks are a wasteland to me.  Just give me a book and let me sit on a bench and read.  Because if you put me on a roller coaster, you would unbuckle my corpse.

Oh, oh, I CANNOT STAND Daniel Schorr either. And this from someone who really does love NPR in general. But OMG he is so freaking annoying.

  2. Minnesotamom

Yay! I can leave a comment!

My crack was Solitaire. And then Minesweeper. I used to sit in the dank, unfinished basement room where we kept the computer (Ha! Now they are located in places of honor!) and play until my toes got cold and my right hand went numb.

I would have had my brother’s name, which is altogether strange to me. I take it your parents were Calvinists. :)

  3. Minnesotamom

Oop…sorry, just read the article. You picked JE, not your parents. Or maybe they did, too.

If I were naming my own self, I would be…Kurt, I think.

  4. JanMary, N Ireland

With you on the crowds, Tetris and amusement parks :)

  5. Veronica Mitchell

MM, you were right the first time. My folks would have named me JE. If I were picking my own, I would go with, um, Ned.

  6. Shannon

Yay! Look at me commenting! I am totally with you on the crowds and tetris type games. :)

Tetris. Oh, Tetris. Back when all I had was a DOS version of WordPerfect on my college computer, my roomie and I would “hang out” together, and talk, back to back, without looking at each other, while we each played Tetris on our respective computers.

    Sigh.

    Memories.

Ha! We joke about Daniel Schorr, because no matter what he is referring to historically, he mentions that he was there. (I mean, the guy is ancient.) So once he was referring to the Civil War, and we were waiting for him to let drop that he had been at the Battle of Gettysburg, or whatever…

Totally with you on number 5.

I read #2 out loud for my husband, and he reacted with more * when I accepted his proposal of marriage: “Me, too! I cannot STAND Daniel Schorr– he is so insufferably smug!”

*not hard to understand, since he had to repeat himself. The first time he asked, my response was, “What?”

that asterisk apparently replaced the words “enthusiasm than” instead of being next to them. Sigh. You get the idea, though.

  11. All Rileyed Up

A fellow Tetris addict. I should have known.

Oooh! Me too, me too! We don’t have a video game system, I’m adamant about it, but sometimes I sneak over to my friend’s house to play Tetris. I’m a hypocrite.

I never rode a roller coaster until I was 15, but now I LOVE them.

Here’s hoping you’d have been a better behaved John Edwards. As for poison ivy/poison oak: I’m dealing with my latest batch of rash even as I type.

I have a cousin named Jonathan Edwards.

I just thought you’d like to know.

  16. Kelley

I still own my original nintendo and the only game I have kept is Tetris.

  17. Adventures In Babywearing

I have no idea what my alternate name would be. This bothers me! And I feel the same way about amusement parks.

    1. If I had been a boy, I would have been called Charles.
    2. After they COMPLETELY redid their line-up, I can no longer bear to listen to CBC radio at ALL anymore. Ugh.
    3. I am not allergic at all to poison ivy, but I’m allergic to practically everything else.
    4. Crowds. Ugh.
    5. Sadly, I LOVE computer games. LOVE.
    6. But I hate amusement parks. Some poor ex-boyfriend doomed our relationship by insisting I ride on a rollercoaster - a SCARY STANDING UP ONE - with him.

  19. Jamie

I would have been a Jonathan too, although I’m not sure what my parents had in mind for a middle name. As I turned out to be a girl, I was named Jamie in honor of my maternal grandfather - James.

So I guess if we had both been boys, there would be two Jonathans in the world who avoid crowds and roller coasters.

I knew I was playing too much Tetris when I started dreaming about those little blocks falling from the sky. And when I would think about it while the preacher was praying. And when I’d look at the clock and realize that I’d been playing for three hours straight (long before I had kids!)

My parent’s would have named me my younger brother’s name if I happened to be born a male. I once asked mom what she would have named my brother if I had his name. She was quite taken aback b/c she didn’t have a second male name picked out. For some reason this was terribly funny at the time.

  21. TeacherMommy

If I had been born a boy, I would have been named “Kip.”

    Yes, Kip. Really.

So would have been my sister, who was second. Thank god that by the time my brother was born my parents had encountered a family whose son had a name they loved…

Is it even possible to take someone named Kip seriously?

  22. Heidi

Very strange - JE was going to be my name too (was that popular then?) Now my son has that middle name!

  23. Nora Bee

Since I don’t know much about you, this is all a treat.

  24. allysha

Really? You turn off Daniel Schorr? You don’t sometimes listen and chuckle? Sometimes I listen to see if he will ever chuckle himself, because I think it would be good for him.
