If you are looking for a special way to celebrate Independence Day this weekend, you might consider donating to Habitat for Humanity. In Orange County they are testing a pilot program for disabled veterans. Fourteen houses are being built which will be sold to the veterans or their families as a 0% loan.
I have always admired Habitat’s efforts to provide quality housing to people who could not afford it otherwise. Their approach to helping the poor combines both realism and idealistic hope, and I am excited to see that approach focusing on veterans. I’ll be sending Habitat some of my pennies, and I hope you can do the same.
